چکیده

Microbial conversion behavior was investigated with several standard arsenicals. As typical origin of marine micro-organisms, sediments, macro-algae, mollusk intestine and suspended substances were used. The degradation of arsenobetaine was observed with every origin, suggesting the ubiquitous occurrence of arsenobetaine-decomposing microorganisms in marine environment. Especially, the microorganisms occurring in the sediments and the suspended substances completely degraded it to inorganic arsenic. From these results, it was hypothesized that there is an arsenic cycle that begins with the complete degradation of arsenobetaine to inorganic arsenic.

Arsenic in marine mammals, seabirds, and sea turtles.

Although there have been numerous studies on arsenic in low-trophic-level marine organisms, few studies exist on arsenic in marine mammals, seabirds, and sea turtles. Studies on arsenic species and their concentrations in these animals are needed to evaluate their possible health effects and to deepen our understanding of how arsenic behaves and cycles in marine ecosystems. Most arsenic in the ...

Numerical simulation of the annual circulation of water flow in the Persian Gulf

The Persian Gulf is an important region in the world regarding energy supply, transportation, shipping, and military missions. Therefore, studying the annual circulation of water current in the Persian Gulf is very important for marine experts. In the present study, the simulation of current circulation in the Persian Gulf has been studied using ROMS numerical model and field observations. The ...

Bioaccumulation, biotransformation and trophic transfer of arsenic in the aquatic food chain.

The occurrence, distribution, speciation, and biotransformation of arsenic in aquatic environment (marine and freshwater) have been studied extensively by several research groups during last couple of decades. However, most of those studies have been conducted in marine waters, and the results are available in a number of reviews. Speciation, bioaccumulation, and biotransformation of arsenic in...
